6/11/2024 - PA Conservation & Natural Resources Adaptive Kayaking Class
Today we had the opportunity to teach a mini adaptive kayaking class to an up and rising group of Environmental Educators from Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources
Class was held at Little Buffalo State Park a hidden gem just north of Harrisburg.
The morning session was an intro to all of Kevin Carr’s creations from Creating Ability in addition to learning how to utilize an adaptive dock.
After lunch students were each given a disability they had to simulate while kayaking
The various conditions ranged from intellectual disability to amputees blindness and TBI. This was a thought provoking experience for everyone.
All the students were engaged from the time we started till we paddled back to shore later in the afternoon.
Big thanks to all of the instructors and safety boaters who came out to help out today. Bill Butler, Jennifer Love, Jeff Shirey, Lori Braderman and her mom Millie, Mike Zinn, Steven Seacord, Regine Theodore-Wise, Heather Cusick-Herman, and Lisa Stake-Baer
