We are looking for volunteers to help with various aspects of this incredible week long clinic. Our needs include anything from providing transportation to and from the airport, to kitchen assistants, safety boaters and instructors.
When: July 21, 2024 - July 28, 2024 Where: 1850 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603-2322 1/2 of the program is classroom based. The second half of the program is learning all the various ways and reasonings behind guiding an individual on the water who is blind or vision impaired. At the end of the week the program merges into the Kids Are OuttaSight Adventure Weekend. This is where you will be teaching students who are blind or vision impaired how to kayak along side their families. Families will learn how to be an OuttaSight guide on water so that they can kayak safely, and independently as a family unit. Jennifer Love Is Our 2024 OJT Paddler
Jennifer Love is our OJT paddler this year with the goal of standing-up a new chapter in the Harrisburg area. Her paddling skills lean heavily toward more challenging whitewater - something I’m no longer able to lead. With her on board, our Vets and volunteers will have the opportunity to further their skills and get out on some of the most beautiful waterways in the East!
If you get a chance, send Jenn a note of support ([email protected]) - OJT is not the easiest program TRR has. For more information on the Team River Runner OJT Program, click here. River & Socks Lager To Be Featured At Manheim
We are pleased to announce a new partnership between ARTifice Ales & Mead and Meduseld Meadery.
If you are a beer lover (or even a beer liker), there is a special beer being brewed just for Susquehanna Valley TRR. River & Socks Lager - a special beer brewed specifically to benefit TRR - is being brewed by local Veteran-owned brewery, Artifice Ales & Meade in Manheim (https://artificeales.com). Proceeds from this beer’s sales go to support our chapter. River & Socks, named for two of the Chapter's favorite pups, is a Czech style lager. Czech lagers are often fermented cooler and for a longer time, and have a light taste with rounded body...a thoroughly enjoyable beer. This beer will be rolled-out for the first time at the Baron Brew Fest (https://lovemanheim.com/brewfest/) and will be available afterward at Artifice Ales & Meade located at 55 N Main Street in Manheim (look for the antique car next to the Prussian Street Arcade and the Mill 72 bakery. If you come to the Baron Brew Fest in Manheim on May 18th, look for AA&M in area B. Come on out and help support Team River Runner, always being sure to enjoy this lager responsibly. July 26-28, 2024
Kids Are OuttaSight Adventure Weekend Since 2017 the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of Team River Runner (SVTRR) has sponsored a Family Weekend Adventure referred to as KAOS (Kids Are OuttaSight).
Team River Runner (TRR) is a National Non-Profit organization (Federal ID 20-3838651) offering a lifestyle of health and healing through paddle sports to Veterans with and without disabilities, their families and close friends. TRR is known throughout the Adaptive Sports Community for its OuttaSight Programming. TRR developed a unique guiding system to be used on the water with individuals who are blind or vision impaired. OuttaSight Ambassadors are US Veterans who also have vision loss either from a combat injury, or an ocular disease that occurred later in life. Each summer TRR OuttaSight Ambassadors are paired with families who have a child who is blind or vision impaired. The OuttaSight Ambassadors serve as role models, promoting independence and proving that: Blindness is NOT a Barrier to Adventure. The KAOS Weekend is open to all students who are blind or visually impaired and their immediate family members. All kayaking instruction and gear are available at no cost. In addition, lodging and food are provided at no cost. Families and Ambassadors tent camp in a privately owned park nestled in Lancaster County. There are also restroom and shower facilities available. There are also tents and sleeping bags available to those families who do not have access to such gear. When: July 26, 2024 - July 28, 2024 Where: 1850 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603-2322 (Rader Park is located on the campus of Church of the Apostles UCC) Space is limited for the program so the faster you register the better chance you and your family have to participate in this unique and one-of-a-kind experience.
